Industry Advisory Board
Adj. Prof. Dr. George N. Melhem is currently an Industry Advisory Board Member at the University of New South Wales for the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and he was appointed to the position in 2014. Other Industry Advisory Board Members include Prof. Emma Johnston the Dean of the faculty of Science UNSW, Prof. Paul Munroe the Assistant Dean of the faculty of Science UNSW, Prof. Michael Ferry Head of School of Materials Science & Engineering UNSW, and other members from the School of Materials Science UNSW, ANSTO, CSIRO, Boral, Cochlear, Perfect Engineering, Weir Minerals, Hatch, Pacific Aluminium, Brickworks,
The Advisory Board is an integral part of its management structure and provides a link with a key stakeholder group. Its purpose is as follows:
- To contribute to the strategic direction for teaching and research by reviewing and providing industry input to undergraduate course content, research directions, recruitment, staffing and to provide support for student recruitment including scholarships,
- To provide an external stakeholder voice with Government in order to influence investment, priorities with regard to facilities, equipment and research grant programs,
- To act as an industry network that the School can use to test ideas and seek advice,
- Also, to meet with Engineers Australia’s Accreditation team regarding the School’s degree programs which require accreditation by Engineers Australia.
